Confidence in Education

“Coming to MidKent College has definitely helped me to develop my confidence. I was always quiet at school, but coming here has encouraged me to speak up.”

Kathy Lay, 17

With rising achievement rates that are above the national benchmark and an impressive range of courses delivered from campuses in Maidstone and Medway, MidKent College is bound to have a programme to suit your needs and aspirations.

This looks set to be the most exciting year in the College’s 81 year history. In September 2009 the College’s Horsted and City way sites will close their doors for a final time and MidKent will open a brand new, state-of-the-art Medway Campus in Gillingham. Couple this with exciting plans for a complete makeover of the College’s Maidstone Campus at Oakwood Park, and it becomes clear that MidKent College is the place to be in 2009.

Choose MidKent at this exciting time, and you will be investing in an education that will provide you with the perfect balance between support and freedom, placing you in an environment in which you can grow in confidence … and succeed.

“Every day you learn a new set of skills. It’s challenging, but your classmates and lecturers make the whole experience fun.”

Chris Albert, 17

The new Medway Campus will have state-of-the-art training facilities in a wide range of subject areas including Construction, Engineering, Hair and Beauty, Animal Care, Performing Arts, Health Care and Public Services. It will be able to accommodate almost 30% more students than the College’s existing sites in Chatham and Rochester.

Future technologies will play an important role in the new buildings... all areas will have wireless Internet access, classrooms will have the capacity for fast video-streaming, and smart cards will be used to pay for a range of services, as well as to ensure that the site is safe and secure.

The Campus will consist of three main buildings. These will be linked by two transparent pavilions containing the social centres of the College, the reception and refreshment area, and a state-of-the-art theatre. Many of the facilities, such as hair design salons, holistic therapy rooms, bistro, arts theatre, dance studio and travel agency will be open to the public.

The new campus will provide a modern, inspirational learning environment that encourages learning for life. And being situated alongside the ‘Universities at Medway’ at Chatham Maritime, MidKent College will be at the heart of education in Medway.

Improvements to the public park directly adjacent to the new building are also being funded by the College. This wooded area will help to create an attractive campus environment for students and will benefit the entire community as a free, open space for all.
